Tukuche Peak Climbing

Mt. Tukuche is a spectacular peak situated in front of Dhaulagiri 1 and the Annapurna range. Tukuche was first climbed by a Swiss team in 1969. Due to its remote location and the seriousness of the terrain, the area is seldom visited by commercial trekking groups. As far as risk factor is concerned, the expedition to Tukuche Peak is regarded as ‘low risk’.

Our summit attempt for Tukuche Peak begins once we reach Hidden Valley BC. Having set up Base Camp we will begin pushing out the route and acclimatizing. Once the climbing phase is, over we will descend to Jomsom for a flight out to Pokhara and then on to Kathmandu.

Day 02: Sightseeing of Kathmandu
Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The city presents a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence in the Valley. Patan and Bhaktapur, its two major neighboring cities bear immense historical, cultural and religious significances. There will be a half day guided tour to the famous and biggest Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal Boudhanath, the 15th century Palace of 55 windows and Swoyambhunath.

Day 03: Kathmandu drive to Beni
From Kathmandu we drive to Beni.

 Day 04: Beni to Babiyachaur
From Beni we trek for 4-5 hours to Babiyachaur.
The first three days trek (Days  4, 5 & 6), along the floor of the Myagdi Khola to Phala gaon , are through classic Nepalese rural countryside, with extensive rice paddies, banana trees, thatched farmhouses and stone built ‘chautaaras’ (resting place) in the welcome shade of enormous banyan trees.

Day 05: Babiyachar to Phedi

Day 06: Phedi to Phala Gaon

Day 07: Phala Gaon to Jugapani
At Phala Gaon the path forks, , with one way continuing up the Dhara Khola, over a low pass into the Dhara Khola and on to Gurja Gaon. The other path crosses the Dhara khola immediately  below the village , rentering the Myagdi khola Valley via Muri.WE take this path and  for a further six days(days 7 to 12) we toil up the Myagdi khola.

Day 08: Jugapani to Bagar

Day 09: Bagar to Lapche Kharka

Day 10: Lapche Kharka to Chartare

Day 11: Chartare to Pakoban

Day 12: Pakoban to Dhaulagiri base camp
Dhaulagiri Base camp is a lonely and god-forsaken place on the glacier at 4,700m exposed to high intensity winds. But the spot is spectacular, to the south, the icefall of the Chhonbardan glacier tumbles in a mass of seracs and crevasses from the north face of Dhaulagiri 1. To the north , Sita Chuchura towers above the camp and to the west , the summits of Dhaulagiri II,III, IV  and V form a precipitous barrier, and to the east ,Tukuche Peak dominates the skyline.

Day 13: Dhaulagiri Base Camp to French Pass (5,360m), enter Hidden Valley
The way to French Pass from Dhaulagiri Base camp is long and steep, climbing up to the head of the Chhonbardan Glacier before turning north to surmount a spur in the middle of the valley and then continuing up to its exposed crest to eventually emerge onto the col. From the final snow-covered slopes, a breathtaking view of the north face of Dhaulagiri 1 pans out behind , with the icefall of the Chonbardan Glacier and base camp still in deep shadow below. Tukuche Peak and Sita Chuchura tower above, and a new and completely different vista is revealed ahead.

Day 14: Trek to Hidden valley
Today we descend into Hidden valley and camp below the slopes leading off south-east to Dhampus pass, where there are several large cairns and some almost flat grounds.

Day 15: Hidden valley to Yak Kharka
We descend to Yak Kharka, a pasture high above Marpha in the valley. To the right are the north faces of Tukuche peak and Dhaulagiri 1. From the wide gently angled snow-fields of the pass, the route stays high for several hours on the crest of an increasingly exposed snowy ridge which juts out east into the Kali Gandaki before plunging away. To the right are the north faces of Tukuche peak and Dhaulagiri 1, straight ahead across the vast chasm of the Kali Gandaki lies Nilgiri, and to our left the brown hills of Mustang recede towards the Tibet.

Day 16-28: Climbing period of Tukuche Peak (6920m)
Having set up Base Camp we will begin pushing out the route and acclimatising. Tukuche was first climbed by a Swiss team in 1969.

Day 29: Trek down to Marpha
We continue down to Marpha, a delightful Thakali village, with a well-planned drainage system. Its narrow alleys and passageways provide welcome shelter from the strong winds of the Kali Gandaki Gorge. Marpha is particularly well known for its apples, apple cider and apple, apricot and peach ‘rakshi’ (local wine).

Day 30: Marpha to Jomsom
From Marpha we trek to Jomsom. Jomsom is a small town in the upper Kaligandaki valley in Nepal, at an altitude of 2770 m. From here one can enjoy the views of the Nilgiri peaks (7,061 m) as well as Dhaulagiri (8,167m). Many visitors find their most lasting impression of Nepal from visits to places like Jomsom and its exhilarating spiritual environment. Jomsom  is  also the gateway to Upper Mustang.

Day 31: Fly back to Pokhara
You board an early morning flight from Jomsom to Pokhara

Day 32: Drive back to Kathmandu
From Pokhara you can either fly or drive to Kathmandu. The flight takes around 30 minutes and the drive takes around 6-7 hours.
