Nepal and Nepalese

Nepal is a beautiful and fascinating country. Covering an area of approximately 150,000 sq km, it lies landlocked between the Asian superpowers of China and India. Its diverse landscape ranges from the tropical lowlands of the Terai to the snowy summits of the Himalayas, the highest mountain range on Earth. To walk through this amazing countryside is to discover a whole new world of terraced rice paddies, enchanting forests and dramatic glaciers and snowfields. It is truly a holiday seeker’s paradise.

The beauty and warmth of the Nepalese people is perhaps even more remarkable than the natural beauty of this country. The population of around 23 million is made up of over 30 different ethnic groups who practice a blend of Hindu, Buddhist and animist religions. The southern area of the Terai is more heavily influenced by Hinduism, whilst the higher mountain regions are predominantly Buddhist. Nowhere is the blend of these two religions more obvious, however, than in Kathmandu itself, where Hindu temples stand side by side the fluttering prayer flags of Buddhist Monasteries.

Regardless of ethnic background or religion, the Nepalese are the most hospitable and friendly people you could ever wish to meet and they make a visit to their country a truly enjoyable experience.
