Getting into Nepal
 
BY SURFACE

It is possible to enter Nepal overland from both India and Tibet .

From Tibet , you cross the border at Kodari and from there, the journey to Kathmandu takes 7 to 12 hours by bus, depending on the road conditions.

From India , there are several different border crossings. Coming by train from Delhi or Varanasi the most convenient border crossing is Sunauli/Belahiya. The only direct buses from here to Kathmandu run at night and take approximately 9 hours. From Calcutta , the usual route is via Patna , crossing the border at Raxaul/Birganj and from Darjeeling , the nearest crossing is Karkabhitta. There are also several border crossings in west Nepal.

    • between Hong Kong and Kathmandu.
    • between Bangkok and Kathmandu.
    • between Singapore and Kathmandu via Bangkok.
    • between Osaka and Kathmandu via Shanghai.
    • between Delhi and Kathmandu.
    • between Bombay and Kathmandu.
Besides, there Biman Bangladesh, Jet Airways, Pakistan Airlines, Pukhet Air connecting Kathmandu with many countries.
