The scenic trek through the river valley of the Dudh Koshi, brings you to the traditional Sherpa villages of Namche, Khumjung and Khunde and the monasteries at Thyangboche and Pangboche. You will meet the Sherpas, enjoy their world renowned hospitality and witness how life continues very much as it has done for centuries. Our highest point is Pangboche [3908m] and its delightfully unspoilt monastery. There is also a chance to visit the unusual Buddhist nunnery at Deboche and the famous Thyangboche Monastery, set high on its ridge, commanding some of the best views in the area.

Indeed, throughout this trek, you will have magnificent views of Mt Everest [8848m], Lhotse [8501m], Nuptse [7879m], Ama Dablam [6856m], Thamserku [6608m] and Kantega [6685m] and the great glaciers, snowfields and ice ridges, glisten in the Himalayan sun. There are also the dark forests, open pastures and masses of rhododendron flowers in the pre-monsoon or the reds and golds of autumn in the post-monsoon. Look out for the huge lammergeiers, with a 2 to 3m wingspan, circling on the updraughts, the proud thar, the Himalayan mountain goat silhouetted on a high ridgeline, or the strange musk deer, shyly scurrying through the undergrowth. See also the intricately carved mani stones, prayer flags fluttering in the breeze and the all-seeing eyes of Buddha on every chorten and stupa. This is an area rich in cultural, religious and environmental interests, set in the awe-inspiring landscape below the highest mountain on Earth.

Following this magnificent trek are two days of exhilarating rafting on the Trishuli River before heading to Royal Chitwan National Park for a jungle safari and the chance to see rhino, deer, elephants and perhaps even an elusive tiger.

Detail Itinerery

DAY 01 ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU
On arrival transfer to the hotel. After a good rest from the long flight, you may be keen to make a first exploration of Kathmandu. Its streets, bazaars, temples, shrines and Buddhist stupas are crowded with people of every creed, colour and race. Rickshaws, taxis and hooting motorists add to the din and create that special atmosphere that Kathmandu is so famous for.

DAY 02 IN KATHMANDU
Today there will be a half day sightseeing tour to some of the most interesting places in and around Kathmandu. We will visit the ancient city of Bhaktapur, the Hindu temple and cremation ghats at Pashupatinath as well as Bodhnath, an impressive Buddhist stupa.

DAY 03 FLIGHT TO LUKLA & TREK TO PHAKDING [2656m]
A spectacular flight and hair raising landing on a steep mountain runway brings us to the start of our trek at the village of Lukla [2900m]. After meeting the crew, we head up the Dudh Kosi Valley on a well-marked trail to our first camp near the river at Phakding.

DAY 04 TREK TO NAMCHE [3450m]
From Phakding, we cross and re-cross the river on high suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park which was set-up in order to protect and preserve this fragile mountain environment. We then ascend quite steeply to Namche and along the way, if the weather is clear, catch a first glimpse of Mt Everest in the distance. Namche is the main trading village in the Khumbu and has a busy Saturday market - a meeting place for the Hindu traders from the lowlands and the Tibetan yak caravans that have crossed the glaciated Nangpa La. Camp is near the bazaar at Namche.

DAY 05 TREK TO KHUMJUNG [3786m]
Ascending from Namche Bazaar, we pass the airstrip at Syangboche and the Japanese-built Everest View Hotel. From the hotel, there are magnificent views up the valley towards Everest. We walk to the picturesque village of Khumjung which has many beautiful houses and a gompa at the top end of town. At the nearby village of Khunde, is the famous hospital built by Sir Edmund Hillary, a vital part of health care in the region.

DAY 06 TREK TO THYANGBOCHE [3864m]
Heading east, we pass a large chorten and then descend to a bridge across the Dudh Kosi at Phunki Tenga. From the river the trail ascends through a forest of pine and rhododendrons, before arriving at Thyangboche Monastery. The views here are truly awesome, from the beautiful Ama Dablam to Lhotse and Everest at the head of the valley. The gompa itself has been rebuilt since a tragic fire in 1989 and is well worth a visit.

DAY 07 EXCURSION TO PANGBOCHE [3908m]
A day excursion today to Pangboche Monastery and the nunnery at Deboche. The magnificent views of Ama Dablam are a highlight of today's walk and the monastery at Pangboche, founded in 1667, is the oldest in the Khumbu region. We return to Thyangboche for our overnight camp.

DAY 08 TREK TO NAMCHE [3450m]
Leaving Thyangboche, we retrace our route down through the forest to the village of Phunki Tenga with its water-driven prayer wheels. With last glimpses back to Everest and Lhotse, and possible sightings of thar and lammergeier, we make our way back to Namche.

DAY 09 TREK TO LUKLA [2900m]
Our final day's trekking follows the Dudh Kosi back down to Lukla. This last evening in the mountains is the ideal opportunity for a farewell party with the sherpa guides and porters, where we can sample some chang, try Sherpa dancing and look back on a memorable week.

DAY 10 FLIGHT TO KATHMANDU
After an early breakfast we head to the airstrip for the return journey to Kathmandu. There's time this afternoon to do some shopping and sightseeing or simply recharge your batteries in preparation for the remainder of the trip.

DAY 11 RIVER RAFTING
This morning we drive to the rafting put-in point at Charaundi and spend the day rafting down the beautiful Trishuli River. Between rapids, there is time to admire the scenery and watch the langur monkeys which can often be seen playing on the riverbanks. We camp overnight by the river.

DAY 12 RAFTING & DRIVE TO ROYAL CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK
We continue rafting until lunch time and then, after lunch, drive to Royal Chitwan National Park. The scenery changes dramatically as we travel from the middle hills to the flat expanse of the Terai. We stay overnight in the lodge.

DAY 13 ROYAL CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK
Today will be spent participating in various activities such as a jeep safari, jungle walk and elephant ride. Overnight in the lodge.

DAY 14 DRIVE TO KATHMANDU
This morning we spend at Chitwan for further jungle activities. After lunch, we drive back to Kathmandu.

DAY 15 DEPARTURE
Transfer to the airport for the flight home.
