Mountaineering in Nepal: Application Procedure
The following documents have to be sent to the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation Mountaineering Division, Kathmandu, Nepal.

  • Completed application. [Download - MS Word file 25 KB]
  • Endorsement of the National Alpine Club [if there is no Alpine Club, the endorsement of the government].
  • Short biodata of all members of the expedition [with photograph and signature]. [Download - MS Word file 32 KB]
  • Map and/or photograph of the mountain indicating climbing route.
  • Approach route map.
Since climbing permission is granted on 'first come, first served' basis, it is therefore necessary to enlist the expeditions name for the particular mountain for the particular season of the year. The listing is made when the complete application form with all documents are received by the Ministry of Tourism. In case all the documents mentioned above cannot be submitted at the same time, booking is only possible with the completed application by the expedition leader.

No fee is required to enlist the expedition's name, so do not pay any amount before you receive the permission letter from the Ministry of Tourism.

The appointment of any government recognised trekking agency of Nepal is essential as a local liaison medium to work with the expedition in Kathmandu. Such appointment can be made prior to or after getting climbing permission from the Ministry of Tourism.

The leader of the expedition team is required to compulsorily pay the full amount of the climbing permit fee [royalty] within 2 months of the date of permission. Failure to pay within the 2 months may result in cancellation of the permit.

The climbing permit fee [royalty] must be paid directly to the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation in its favour either by bank draft or bank transfer and is payable in convertible foreign currency.
