Godavari

 
     
 

Godavari is a small village prominent with its rich cultural heritage and amazing scenic beauty. This enchanting village is situated at the foot hills of Phulchoki, the highest hill of Valley, approximately 5000 feet above sea level, and 14 km southeast of the city Kathmandu. This place has its own significance because of the Nepal's only Royal Botanical Garden and the Godavari Temple. The Royal Botanical Garden is landscaped over 72 hectares of land. Over 500 species of plants can be found in the various gardens. Godavari is a famous picnic spots.

 As this place is not only popular for its natural beauty it also holds some holy places like Godavari temple with a holy pond named “Godavari Kunda”, where a fresh water spring is forever channeled through five carved stone spouts (Panchadhara) where pilgrims bathe, drink and worship. A fair is held in every gap of 12 years. A pilgrimage place revered by both Hindus and Buddhists with various temples and a retreat monastery in the surrounding vicinity.
 This village is also popular for bird and butterfly watching, collecting herbs and viewing the valley and the enchanting mysterious landscapes of the valley as well as the beautiful panorama of the silvery Himalayas. A fish hatchery and the Phulchoki are part of the landmark of Godavari.

The Royal Botanical Garden:
This enchanting garden, set in a landscape of natural greenery is a calm and soothing place. The Royal Botanical Garden the popular picnic spot is located at the foothills of Phulchoki, one of the highest hills surrounding Kathmandu valley. The garden is landscaped over 72 hectares of land. Over 500 species of plants can be found in the various gardens. The peak flowering season falls in spring and in autumn.

The Godavari Temple:
This place holds some holy places like Godavari temple. This is a Lord Shiva's temple and also known as "Paanch Dhara" because there are five water spouts generated from the holy pond inside the temple. Actually this temple is popular because in every twelve years occurs a fair where pilgrims bathe, drink and worship.

Trip to Phulchoki:
At the top of Godavari the hill named "Phulchoki", the highest hill of Valley is located with 2,758 m high. It makes an ideal spot for hiking. A Buddhist shrine is situated on the top of the hill and one can get a spectacular view of the entire Kathmandu valley and Himalayas.
