Dhulikhel

 
     
 

Dhulikhel, striking town is popular for its natural beauty and ancient traditions. Dhulikhel is ideal for snow-capped peaks, sunrise, sunset The Himalayan ranges from the twin crest of Mt. Langtang in the west to the Mt. Everest in the east can be clearly viewed. The town is situated at an altitude of 5,500 ft above sea level, 30 km. east of Kathmandu on the side of Arniko Highway on the way towards Tibet.
                                                                                                                     
This exquisite town has culture with its old Newari heritage with an estimated population of 10,170. This typical Newari town is nearby Tamang villages .This town has a glorious past that can be witnessed in the lovely building and intricate woodcarving found among the shop-lined streets and in the temples. In the main square there is the Harisiddhi Temple and Narayan Temple, both Vishnu temples.In the main square there are two Vishnu (Hindu god) temples: Harisiddhi Temple and Narayana Temple. Dhulikhel was once known by the Buddhist name of Shrikhandapur and still has a few Buddhist stupas in memory of the old days.

Glorious Sceneries:
One can see both high Himalayan peaks and terai region including terraced hilly landscape of rural villages and the old small city of Dhulikhel.The town offers a complete panoramic view of the snow-capped ranges from Karyolung in the east to Himalchuli in the west .There are many vantage points in Dhulikhel, which offer a exquisite view of the Himalaya that will leave spellbound. More than 20 Himalayan snowpeaks can be seen in all their glory. Sunset views are equally spectacular. More than 20 Himalayan peaks, including Annapurna (8,091 m), Ganesh (7,429 m), Langtang (7,234 m), Phurbi-Chyachu (6,637 m), Gauri Shanker (7,134 m) and Lhotse (8,516 m) can be seen in all their glory.

Main Square:
In the main square, the major places of worship here are the Narayan and Harisiddhi temples, which are adorned with profuse wood carvings. This Main Square is a peaceful and scenic spot. Bhagwati Mandir in the northwest part of town is a high point in the city and from where there are good views of the mountains. This temple is situated at a height in the western part of Dhulikhel. From here, one can get a beautiful vista of the town and surrounding areas. Dhulikhel also has several ancient Hindu temples dedicated to Sweta Bhairava, Hari Siddhi, Shiva, and Narayana, each with an interesting story related to how they came into being.
