Face to Face with Kinga Baranowska: The first Polish woman to climb Kanchenjunga(8,586m)

Climbing with CAVAPLAND Kanchenjunga (8,586m) Expedition team ( logistics organized by Explore Himalaya), Kinga Baranowska became the first Polish woman climber to reach the summit of Kanchenjunjunga on 18th May.EH met up with Kinga on the eve of her departure for a short interview at Hotel Vaishali.
EH: How was your Kanchenjunga experience?
KB: For me it was a very long and very tough climb. We did not take many sherpas and I was climbing without supplementary oxygen. On the last leg I climbed continuously for 15 hours and it was so very difficult. It was very long! For me Kanchenjunga was the highest eight thousand meter peak that I have attempted so far, and without oxygen it was really very difficult!.
EH: How many Himalayan peaks have you climbed so far?
KB: I have climbed Cho Oyu(8188m),  Broad Peak(8051m),  Nanga Parbat(8126m),  Manaslu(8,163m) and Dhaulagiri(8167m). Kanchenjunga(8586m) is the sixth peak that I have climbed.
EH: According to you which is the most difficult?

KB: For me Kanchenjunga was the toughest.
EH: What’s next on your agenda?
KB: I am returning to Poland. In June- July I will be climbing Gasherbrum(8,080m) in Pakistan.
EH: What about Everest?
KB:  Maybe next year!
EH: How do you find Nepal?
KB: This is my fifth visit to this country and I find it very tourist friendly. The trail to Kanchenjunga was wild but now that it has been discovered it is more popular.
